This is the artist statement from the group of Kindergarten students.
As a group (My’orri, La’Rayah, Melanie, Madison, Zyon):
Ponds are important because some animals live in a pond. There are ducks, frogs, turtles, and fish in ponds. We might all be dead with no water! If we had no water we’d dry up like paper. [For our project] we used pieces of blue [tissue] paper and glued it to our big [watercolor] paper to make our pond water. We made lily pads with flowers and made frogs, turtles, and dragonflies and colored them and put them in our pond. Monet was an artist who painted lots of colors in the pond. He was alive a long time ago!
Melanie: There are ducks, frogs, turtles, and fish in ponds. The fish is my favorite animal in the whole world! I don’t want it to die!
La’Rayah: I love frogs because they hop like this(imitates a frog hopping) on the frog hopping leaf [lily pads].
